The Russians Can Be Neo-Cons Too

The Russians seem to have adopted the "Ledeen Doctrine" from American neo-conservative Michael Ledeen.
"Every ten years or so, the United States needs to pick up some small crappy little country and throw it against the wall, just to show the world we mean business."
Substitute "Russia" for the United States and that's pretty much what Russia's doing to Georgia right now--throwing a "crappy little country against the wall" to "show the world they mean business."

You wouldn't by any means be talking about Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, Grenada, Sudan or Haiti by any chance?

The Monroe Doctrine has been replaced with the Machismo Doctrine. Every US president must bloody themselves with some type of military action to show they mean business and to illustrate their machismo.

Russia doesn't want to be left out as a former/wannabe superpower in flexing their machismo muscle. Putin, after all, set up the return of the "calender boy" macho image of a true Russian... one that kicks @$$ and asks questions later.

But North Ossetia is not exactly Iraq. So maybe this is a tryout for maybe say the next step like northern Kazakhstan that Russia wants back.

Who knows... why do we spend all our tax dollars on a military if we don't get a chance to use it once in a while. Those little countries are often trial runs for our newest and latest military ware. Russia is no different. There is nothing like the feeling of declaring victory over an arch enemy like Grenada, or for Russia a place like North Ossetia. Brings pride back to our military brass.

Precisely, we've been excellent role models for the Russians.
