Rob Reiner must have gotten a cheap thrill reading his morning newspaper. The welcome that President Bush got yesterday the capital of Albania was a replay of Spinal Tap's new popularity in Japan after they had bottomed out in the States. Bush's visit to Tirane had everything that he no longer receives in his home country-- cannons booming, flags flying, enthusiastic crowds lining the streets, and warm welcoming speeches.
People were especially grateful that Bush had called for independence for Kosovo the day before. Nothing like a little pandering to juice the gate in Eastern Europe.
Up next--the sold out tour of Chad.

I've read elsewhere that a great many Albanian children are named Bill or Hillary out of gratitude for the Clinton intervention in the Balkans, and that Albanians see Bush as simply the Clinton successor.
We'll have to see how many Albanian children are named George.
Maybe there will be a lot of "Willie George's" in Albania some day.
