Hillary for Secretary of State? The Secretary of State job doesn't seem like a natural fit for Hillary Clinton. But there are certain pluses. Hillary would bring a high profile. She'd have clout with President Obama and her clout would keep the perpetually envious troops at the State Department happy.

Besides she'd be better than Bill Richardson.

I made a similar argument earlier today. Hillary definitely demands attention and would win-over many of the moderates that haven't made the transition to the left. She is better suited for the job than Richardson (though not better qualified). I also like the idea of Richard Lugar. It would ease bipartisan tension and enable Obama to set a progressive agenda. Whether or not you disagree with Lugar's principles, he has undeniable experience and qualities that make him well-suited for being the Secretary of State. It could also help solidify Indiana as a blue state for 2012 and remove a prominent republican from senate that is insuperable in the 2012 election.

Secretary of State doesn't seem like the right fit to me, either.

But my real question is: Who's going to be left standing in the Senate after they clear house? Obama and Biden are leaving, Kennedy and Byrd may be on the way out for health reasons, Kerry and Clinton may leave to join the Obama administration, 6 to 9 Republicans just got replaced with Democrats, Frist and Lott retired, Talent, Burns, Allen, Chafee, Santorum, Dewine lost in 2006, 6 Democrats including Daschle and Edwards left in 2004 ... 29+ Senate seats changed hands in 4 years?

Maybe I'm wrong, but the last 4 years seem pretty extraordinary in terms of Senate turnover.

There has been a lot of turnover. But the party leadership is intact with Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, and Chuck Schumer for the Dems and Mitch McConnell of KY for the Repubs. The Democrats look pretty good overall because they still have a lot of strong veterans like Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, and Carl Levin. Among the new senators, Sheldon Whitehouse of RI has done well in several Senate hearings and Clair McCaskill of MO was a good surrogate for Obama.

Bill Richardson has a great resume but the presidential campaign revealed that he's pretty much a dud.
