Should I Trust My Mother-In-Law?

My mother-in-law just got off the phone saying that PBS was saying that McCain was going to announce his VP pick and that it would be Lieberman.

I made a quick internet check and couldn't confirm that, but thought I'd pass it along anyway.

Lieberman lost with Gore and he will lose again if he is with McCain. That is a lose-lose situation. Republicans don't want a Democrat (Republican wannabe) on their ticket. Lieberman does not win the votes that McCain wants. He couldn't do it with Gore and he won't do it now. Lieberman's vote appeal is selective and he doesn't have any charisma even if he is not a mean abrasive person but has a mild manner to him. I hope Lieberman is the VP choice. Would make the whole election that much more unusual.

I think it would be a great choice for McCain. He may be realizing that another Bush term isn't going to work. If he picks Lieberman he might gain more votes from independents and moderates than he loses from the conservative base. He'll be showing his maverick self again.

It's also funny how the conservatives LOVE to have Lieberman speak at the GOP conventions and never fail to mention that he supports McCain. But when it actually comes to being on the ticket, the line in the sand is drawn.

In the end, I think McCain is a train wreck....

Obama/Biden 08!

If Lieberman, then that means we have 4 U.S. Senators running for President and VP. I can't recall this ever happening???

I agree with the first commenter. Republicans are hard enough on their own people and while they love Lieberman for his Zell Miller-like tendency to scold other Democrats, that doesn't mean they want him on their ticket.

A McCain/Lieberman ticket would also make the campaign completely about the Iraq war and no matter how often McCain declares that the surge has worked, the war is still extremely unpopular with Americans.
