There's some buzz (here and here) in the liberal blogosphere about Barack Obama being more popular among Iowa Republicans than John McCain in a poll out today.
Actually, it's better than that for Obama. At 6.7% of the Republican vote, Obama is currently running third to Mitt Romney at 26.9% and Rudy Giuliani at 11.3%. That puts him ahead of Fred Thompson, Tom Tancredo, Sam Brownback, and Mike Huckabee as well as McCain. In fact, Obama doubles up McCain.
Obama's threats to attack Pakistan seem to be going over well with Iowa Republicans.

All he had to do was talk like a hawk and attack Hillary. That won him a cheap-seat at the Republican table in Iowa. What a pity that he deems it necessary to pander to war-mongers now that the war has been so thouroughly discredited. It's a 'brave new world.'
McCain is only popular with the Left. Ever since his all out assault on the 1st Amendment with McCain-Feingold, his chances of winning the nomination were nil.
And if you think that having your candidate taking positions like swearing off of nukes, and invading allies is a good thing ...
Yes, I do. I know the right has been fantasizing about battlefield nukes for ages. But we'll all be fine without them.
Obama is just stating the obvious with Pakistan. If the U. S. located bin Laden in Pakistan, we would strike him if the Pakistanis either couldn't or wouldn't. I think that would be a bottom line for both Democratic and Republican administrations.
I'm happy with Obama because he's finally starting to fight. The Democrats need to pick up the ferocity level if they're going to be in gear for the general election.
