Greenwald Onto Fitzgerald. In yesterday's post, Glenn Greenwald recommended that Patrick Fitzgerald be appointed as a special prosecutor for Bush administration crimes. I couldn't agree more and made the same suggestion
here and in connection to a Truth and Reconciliation Commission
here.
Shall there be a statute of limitations? Given that special prosecutors are usually named by current AGs, a lot of political mischief could ensue. The Clinton administration engaged in potentially illegal wiretapping and data collection, as well as rendition of non-citizen suspects who may very well have been tortured, for all we know. And there were serious questions of illegal campaign finance practices as I recall. Maybe we should just stick to elections and impeachment and history rendition instead of openening this door.
