I'm married with two daughters and have been teaching political science in a red state for 19 years. My blogging covers a lot of issues but I'm a progressive kind of guy who tends to focus on political process, conservatism, and religiosity. Living in the Bible Belt gives me a little different though not necessarily more friendly perspective on conservatism. I also get in the occasional sports post.

Yes, I Have Seen Rain
Tonight, I'm reminded of the lyric from the James Taylor song: "Lord, I've seen fire and I've seen rain." That's because there's a hard, cleansing rain falling in our part of Kentucky. The rain is a thing of beauty in itself. It even smells right if such a phrase can be allowed. But it also improves the appearance of the environment. In a place where much of the beauty of nature lies in the over-abundance of plant life, a hard-cleansing fall rain makes the woodlands and streets even more beautiful by paring down much of the over-growth. When the rain stops, many of the trees will stand out even more because they'll be cluttered with fewer leaves.
A "hard, cleansing", and much needed rain as to alluded to. From what I understand, the farther south one goes, the more conditions have taken on the appearence of a drought. So, the rain does look and smell good. I hope the south gets some of this weather soon.
ReplyDeleteSo now you're an environmental scientist too? Amazing.
